Camel Dance or dancing camels is a rare scene in most part of the earth now. Subcontinent Pakistan and India is a land of diverse culture. Almost all regions have their unique traditions. Punjab province of both side i.e Eastern and West Punjab is rich in this regard. Many folk festivals celebrated there with lot of cultural activity. Camel Dance is one of these. This art needs lot of training to the animals. It is fading now as new generation do not have time and skill to train these beasts.

Life is beautiful around the rivers in Asian countries like Pakistan and India. Farmers and herders go to their fields early in the morning and come back home late evening. Some time young boys ride buffaloes and enjoy. Village landscape rivers is marvelous and enchanting. It looks a bit like desert but more green and versatile.

Peasant couple going for work

There is more democracy and freedom of work in farmer community in most part of villages of Punjab Pakistan. Though portrayed negatively in most of the presentations of art and literature which show a miserable oppressed woman of these poor farmers community. But the reality is other way round. Mostly women go to fields and work with their males, gain respect as a producer and definitely bear the extra burden of home work. But she enjoy the feeling of  protection by her husband and children. This farmer couple was going for work in the fields in the vibrant evening light as a second shift.

Cold Horror Movie Like Tones In Documentary Pictures

Converting documentary pictures in black and white is always rewarding unless some very colorful festivals like holi and bassant in subcontinent. In a damp foggy environment it is more suitable to give some cool effect to the documentary pictures of daily life.It will enhance the effect and mood of the pictures. This treatment would also make the pictures more artistic and impressive. To create this effect follow the following simple procedure in Photoshop ( I am using CS6 ) :-

– Make a duplicate layer and convert it into black and white or make an adjustment layer of black and white.

– Reduce the opacity of the adjustment layer to reveal some colors of the background layer.

– Give some green and cyne toning to the the adjustment layer so that the overall image looks more cool and moody.

How much toning is required is just arbitrary and your personal choice.   You can further play with the image and unleash your imagination.

Vanishing Beauty Of Kalash

Kalash valley Pakistan in Chitral is unique in its cultural beauty.  These valleys are situated in the beautiful mountains of Hindukush.They are rare people and surely an endangered community due to multiple factors. Kalash culture and people show love for all people and each other. Their language is Khowar which is rich in literature and is spoken in most areas of the Chitral but do not have common written form. The music of the valley is rich and mostly in khawar language. ‘

Religion of Kalash people is similar to the primitive Greeks who worshiped gods and goddesses. Many of their gods are animal deities and their idols are erected in the streets. These are mostly horse and goat mouths. Some human figures of wood are also found in some areas.

There are three valleys of Kalash people known as Bombret, Rambor and Barir. Total inhabitants of these valleys are less than 4000. They are are under immense pressure of extinction due to many factors. Most important factors among these is the rising tourism in the area. There is no control over hotel construction. Rich investors are making huge hotel buildings which are not only devastating the beauty of the area but also destroying the business of local small hotel owners. Many companies like PIA and TDCP using kalasha people for their ads without any compensation. Many religious organization are working there to convert these people into their faith. Among these many christian and Muslim missions are active. Lives of Kalash people are really miserable due to these factors. Security threats are recent menace due to rising wave of religious terrorism. Tourists misbehave during their festivals and authorities have no system to protect kalash people. Hotel owners buy fuel wood and other commodities at high rates which are becoming unavailable to the local people. There is a need for immediate attention by the  Government authorities to save this unique community from extinction.
