Camel Dance or dancing camels is a rare scene in most part of the earth now. Subcontinent Pakistan and India is a land of diverse culture. Almost all regions have their unique traditions. Punjab province of both side i.e Eastern and West Punjab is rich in this regard. Many folk festivals celebrated there with lot of cultural activity. Camel Dance is one of these. This art needs lot of training to the animals. It is fading now as new generation do not have time and skill to train these beasts.

Life is beautiful around the rivers in Asian countries like Pakistan and India. Farmers and herders go to their fields early in the morning and come back home late evening. Some time young boys ride buffaloes and enjoy. Village landscape rivers is marvelous and enchanting. It looks a bit like desert but more green and versatile.

There is more democracy and freedom of work in farmer community in most part of villages of Punjab Pakistan. Though portrayed negatively in most of the presentations of art and literature which show a miserable oppressed woman of these poor farmers community. But the reality is other way round. Mostly women go to fields and work with their males, gain respect as a producer and definitely bear the extra burden of home work. But she enjoy the feeling of  protection by her husband and children. This farmer couple was going for work in the fields in the vibrant evening light as a second shift.

Bangles are one of the most popular ornament in subcontinent India and Pakistan. Women like these bangles which are large rings of glass or plastic in multi-colors and women wear these in wrists and some time in upper arm too. Selling bangles by the women in the villages is not only a profession but a tradition too. Some time males too sell bangles in the villages and are known as “Banjaras” and women are known as “Banjarans”. They are very important part of centuries old village culture.

Compositional Beauty Of Village life

To be creative in documentary photography looks strange. But in my personal opinion, documentary photography without some creative and balanced composition would not have the real impact on the viewer. In this picture I waited the bull cart to reach at perfect position where the main tree was making a strong starting point. It acts as a pivot and prop from where the elements of the picture move. I deliberately kept the saturation very mild to keep the soothing morning effect intact. In spite of that the warmth of the yellow morning light of winter have created a very pleasing contrast in the pictures. That picture also showing the cultural beauty and simplicity of the rural life in Asia. farmers have a routine to go to their fields after a break fast of butter and “Lassi” with house made chapati of corn.

A FARMER IN THE MORNING

April mornings are specially very important in the life of farmers as the harvest season starts in this month. Farmers prepare themselves for the season by eating good diet and and arranging fodder for their cattle. In recent past these farmer used their bulls for threshing and most of harvest was done manually. Now the agriculture has become much mechanized and use of machines is common. Light in the April mornings is amazing and have vibrant colors. This light is most attractive for the documentary and nature photographers. Taking pictures of the farmers going to their fields on bicycles and on foot is a pure delight. One can feel the freshness of the morning and simplicity and beauty of the village life in its climax. There is much festivity after the harvest season too. Many festivals popularly known as “melas” are arranged and farmers display their sports and cultural skill there.
