Camel Dance – Colors of Punjab Culture

Camel Dance or dancing camels is a rare scene in most part of the earth now. Subcontinent Pakistan and India is a land of diverse culture. Almost all regions have their unique traditions. Punjab province of both side i.e Eastern and West Punjab is rich in this regard. Many folk festivals celebrated there with lot of cultural activity. Camel Dance is one of these. This art needs lot of training to the animals. It is fading now as new generation do not have time and skill to train these beasts.

Thal desert of Pakistan is the third largest in the country. It has immense beauty of nature. We can call it landscape photographer’s paradise. Ripples of sand and shadows of dunes are so artistic that a heart accustomed to appreciate beauty immediately fall in love with the scene. Nomadic Life is  One of the the primitive way of life. Nomads are universal and each area have its own tribes and clans. A day starts very early in the life of a nomad. He first feed his animals and then prepare for the days travel while female folk prepare breakfast. They most don not stay more than few days at a place as the shortage of water and food made them to move on some other destination. Travel is in the genes of these nomadic people. Nomads of Mongolian desert and Tibet plateau are famous world over.

The Camel  caravan

Camel caravans are now fading out in the urban environment but in some remote parts of the Asia  camels are still use for transport of material. When I visited a river area this winter I witness this camel caravan loaded with material of grass to make mates.
